Grade Scale Conversion

In the caucus with Dr. Liberty, he addressed the students with a purpose to explain the looming changes he wishes to bring about. Only a short time after its official announcement, he presented the changes that will occur to the grading system. Kettering will change from its current WGA system, a 100-point scale, to the traditional, well-known GPA, a 4.0 scale.
In summary, Dr. Liberty and his committee felt that the university needed to move beyond the system established when Kettering was GMI. The WGA system is unique only to Kettering, and therefore, those unfamiliar with it often find it strange and confusing. With an increasing number of co-op employers and students applying to graduate schools, the change will put Kettering in sync with the system others know and use.
The chart below shows how each individual class grade will be converted on a GPA scale. The cumulative WGA is not being strictly converted to the 4.0 scale. According to the posted statement about the conversion, any student in good standing will not fall from that with the conversion. Kettering will start giving grades in the 4.0 system in Summer 2009. Any other information about the conversion can be found in Blackboard.
