Kettering Hockey Shocks Region
Issue date: 11/19/08 Section: News
First and foremost, clarification must be made regarding our collegiate associations. There has been some speculation that Kettering was in the NCAA, this is incorrect. The Kettering Hockey Team is not an NCAA Division III team. We are an American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division III team playing in the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC).
The Kettering Hockey Team is currently 2-1 with wins against Jackson Community College and long-time rival Lawrence Technical University.
In the inaugural game, Kettering defeated Jackson CC by a score of 6-4. Dave Evans led the scoring with two goals, while additional goals were provided by Steve Bandurski, Justin Loechli, Matt Gapinski, and Keith Boruta. Scott Hooper played goal and stopped 29 out of the 33 shots he faced.
In the second game of the season, the Bulldogs squared off against a highly ranked Lawrence Tech. Lawrence Tech came out of the gates strong, by scoring a short-handed goal, but Kettering bounced back with four unanswered goals of their own. Brad Gallagher, Jim Gat, Steve Bandurski, and Matt Gapinski each had a goal in the 4-1 win over Lawrence Tech. Scott Hooper had an outstanding performance in net, stopping 40 out of 41 shots faced.
The third game, against Delta College, brought the first defeat of the season for the Bulldogs. Delta won 4-3 in a very physical game, marred by numerous penalties between the two teams. Kettering was in control 2-1 after goals by Steve Bandurski and Jim Gat, but Delta stormed back to take a 4-2 lead. Dave Evans scored early in the third period, but the Bulldogs would not be able to overcome the deficit.
The final two games during B-Section are on November 16th at home against University of Michigan Flint at 4:30pm and December 13th away against Davenport University at 3:00pm. Come out and show your support for the Kettering Hockey Team. If you have any questions, please contact Jim Gat or Rick Birdsall.
