As I think most of us will agree, summer is the most fun of all the seasons. The sun is bright and warm, the smell of barbeque is everywhere, weekends are spent at the lake, and everything just seems better. As all Kettering students know, summer here is a little different. We all go to class while our friends at other schools sleep in and relax by the pool. However, just because we spend a few hours in the classroom each day doesn't mean we can't still enjoy summer. In fact, I personally love being here during the summer months! If you've cooped yourself up in your room for the last few weeks then you're missing out on some great summer activities around campus! For example, practically every day you can venture out to the "beach" and find a free lunch barbeque and maybe even a game of pickup ultimate frisbee. At night you can play or watch intramural sports like soccer, sand volleyball, or flag football. Also, there are plenty of other activities like movies on the beach, scavenger hunts, capture the flag in the AB and so much more.
Beyond the events above, another great part about being on campus during summer is the wide variety of clubs that you can get involved in. Kettering really does have a club for EVERYONE! No matter what your interest, I can guarantee there's a club for you. Missing those trips to the lake? Go white water rafting with the Outdoors club over Labor Day. Wishing you could play your favorite sport again? Try lacrosse, soccer, basketball or any of the other sport clubs. Do you miss going on the summer service trips you took in high school? Volunteer with any of our service clubs like RealService or Engineers Without Boarders. Need to get some mud on the tires or grease on your hands? Try Mudboggers or Firebirds! And for whatever reason if you can't find something you like but have an idea for a new club, go up to Student Activities and they can help you get a new club started.
So even though you do have to roll out of bed before noon to go to class, you still can enjoy a beautiful summer to its fullest! Just get out there and take advantage of all the different activities and clubs that Kettering has to offer!
