The Greener Engineering Organization (GEO), a student run club promoting recycling and environmentally conscious behavior, would like you to participate in an intercollegiate recycling competition, sponsored by The Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission and CBC Recycling. The participating schools are Kettering University, Mott Community College, Baker College, and University of Michigan Flint. There will be a trailer parked in front of the Campus Center (The Pool) with bins for your recyclables by noon on March 1st, and collection will end March 7th. Acceptable items include paper, cardboard, only corrugated or rolled, not wax coated or smooth boxes (cereal boxes), aluminum or tin cans, and #1 or #2 plastics (plastics will be labeled on the bottom). No plastic caps please. The winning school, which will be determined by the weight of recycled materials per student, will keep the money raised from all of the recycled materials collected by the schools.

If you forget to take your recyclables to the bins while they are here, there are paper, can, and plastic bottle recycling containers located throughout the school that GEO empties throughout the term, so feel free to drop your recyclables in any of those as well.

One last major opportunity to recycle is GEO's bi-annual Battle of the Bins, which will be going on in the Great Court 9th Friday, March 12th. We will be accepting the same materials as the other competition, but NOT cans, and whoever donates the most in each category, paper, cardboard, cans & bottles, will win a $50 gift card to the Flint business of that person or team's choosing.

If you are interested in attending GEO meetings, they are every Tuesday in the SCEC, AB 1335, under the SARC and IT Department, at lunch, pizza and pop are provided. This is a great way to get involved on campus, help the planet, and gain some leadership experience to boot! We hope to see you there.
