Spotlight KSG

Issue date: 3/2/10 Section: News
The Technician continues to try to bring to light the various goings-on of Kettering's Student Government. Once again, much was discussed in the last few weeks, but only the most prominent achievements will be recapped here. Now, without further ado, here is what the different sects of KSG have accomplished:
Applications for Operations Council, Finance Council, and Academic Council are available! This is every student's chance to get involved in helping Student Government make decisions.
Student Senate is going to begin a campaign to, as it was so termed, "get the word out" about what KSG is, how they are involved in the daily procedures of life at Kettering University, and so on. Details have not been announced, but this campaign will most likely involve the utilization of ads placed around the school.
As a resolution of Senate elections last week: Bryannan Santo has been elected as the new freshman representative, finally forming a complete Senate. Congratulations, Bryannan!
Those who walk the underground path to their AB classes have almost certainly noticed the multifarious cracks in the walls. They are thought to have been caused by construction on adjacent streets causing water to mix with the plaster in the tunnel, thus creating cracks in the wall. The walls should be fixed by the end of this term, or over the so-called "zeroth week".
For those interested in expanding their lingual repertoire, classes in basic Chinese and German will be offered for this coming summer term.
Two clubs have recently received new monetary goodies: BUC reallocated funding for a cultural outing, and the Technician will be receiving 4 new 4GB flash drives, 2 new whiteboards, 2 new voice recorders, and a new computer.
The late-night breakfast that typically takes place on 11th week Thursday may undergo a shift in date and/or time. The suggestion has been made to move it to 11th Tuesday, but the concern is that some students may show up drunk. It takes no sage to realize that hangovers are not conducive to studying (especially not during finals week), so this problem may be circumvented by keeping the late-night breakfast on the typical Thursday (encouraging students not to drink, as some exams will be held the next morning) or by holding it earlier in the day on Tuesday (since most drinking is done later in the day).
New events galore! A thesis forum will be held on 9th week Thursday in the Cribathon during lunch hour, and a faculty appreciation lunch will take place in the Sunset Room during lunch hour (of course) on 10th week Tuesday
Also of major importance is the planned presence of the Higher Learning Commission in McKinnon Theatre on 9th week Monday. Of what significance is this? We, the students, will then have the opportunity to speak our minds on any part of life at Kettering that we feel is important and how it may be improved. This is also part of a re-accreditation process that Kettering must go through. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is highly encouraged if you wish to be a part of change.
EDIT: The Late Night Breakfast portion of the article has been corrected. The final decision has since been made to hold Late Night Breakfast on Thursday night as usual.
