At the elementary school, students teamed up with the Master Gardener Volunteer Program to solve the flooding playground issue. The group of volunteers lacked proper hole digging tools, but got the job done anyway. Students from this volunteer group would not recommend digging a 4-foot-deep hole full of fist-sized rocks with hoes or garden shovels, but if that's all you've got then you've gotta use it. A few, such as Nicholas Orlando, actually stood in the hole and scooped out the muddy clay-covered rocks because the shovels just weren't cutting it. And hey - it's for the kids.
For more volunteering opportunities, check the bulletin board across from Student Activities in the Campus Center or go to a realSERVICE meeting (Mondays at 8pm in the Student Civic Engagement Center (SCEC), located on the 1st floor of the AB).
