Thompson Hall RAs: Ready for Another Great Term at Kettering

Issue date: 7/16/10 Section: News
As the Summer 2010 term approached, the RAs of Thompson Hall prepared for the new faces of incoming freshmen through team-building exercises and by giving back to the community. The staff decided as a whole to volunteer at Mott Park and helped in the beautification efforts. They also spent some time helping each other with preparing name tags, bulletin boards, and room inspections. Lastly, they relaxed on Buttercup beach to¬gether prior to freshmen move-in.
Top Ten Things Advised to New Students:
1.) Go to class - unless you received a full-tuition scholarship, you're paying to be here.
2.) Don't get behind, but instead try to stay ahead. Since Kettering's school terms last only 11 weeks, it is especially hard to catch up if you fall behind!
3.) Get to know your professors early in the term and seek their help when needed. Some¬times they can even help you get a job or pro¬vide a reference.
4.) Try new things and join clubs that perk your interest.
5.) Learn how to manage your time, both with classes and activities.
6.) Study a lot: academics should be your top priority.
7.) Don't forget to leave time for relax¬ation.
8.) Make time to workout: this relieves stress and helps prevents the freshmen 15.
9.) When you start to get overwhelmed, take some time out, breathe, and then get back on schedule.
10.) As a new student, this is a differ¬ent place unlike any other and you will grow and change - which is expected - but be true to yourself and who you want to be.
Finish what you start, because this is only the beginning. College should be the best time of your life. Then, you go into the real world and the things you learned here will help you to be successful.
